AITC Students Visit B&R
Recently we had the pleasure of hosting a group of Year 10 students from the Ipswich Campus of the Australian Industry Trade College (AITC) for a tour and talk at the B&R Head Office.
The students are currently participating in the AITC Rookies “Be Ready” program. The program is designed to support all new entrants to prepare for the world of work with a focus on safety, character and employability. Excursions to businesses such as B&R Enclosures enables AITC to introduce Rookies (new students) to multiple career pathways and to hear wisdom from industry leaders, employers and workers. The hope is that during these excursions it may inspire a young person to possibly seek and organise a work experience placement later in their program.
The students who visited B&R were given a safety induction, before touring the facilities. It provided an opportunity for B&R to showcase the types of positions that are available as apprenticeships and how people start at the ground level and work their way up through the company. Throughout the organisation B&R has numerous people who started their careers on the shop floor and have progressed to varied roles in both the manufacturing department or office-based positions.
The AITC is a senior school (Years 10-12) for students wanting a work-ready and industry-driven education. Students graduate AITC with their high school certificate as well as a trade qualification of their choice. To assist students in choosing their vocation, a number of industry visits are undertaken by the school to a range of different businesses.
