THE CHALLENGE
Since 2016, B&R Enclosures has been manufacturing integrated control panels for Arrow Energy to manage gas well heads across the Surat Basin. A primary challenge has been placing these panels in unmanned, remote locations, necessitating robust solutions to protect internal components from harsh weather and potential vandalism.
Over time, B&R has continuously improved the control panels, resulting in a higher-quality, fully wired, and integrated solution. We remain committed to collaborating with Arrow Energy’s engineers and technicians to refine panel designs for easier installation and termination on-site. Initial modifications included adding a fan and filter with vent hoods to enhance airflow, stabilize internal temperatures, and guard against dust and water intrusion. Sun shields were also incorporated to protect door-mounted HMIs from sun exposure. Additionally, B&R developed a retrofit kit to streamline upgrades for existing operational panels.
THE STRATEGY
B&R’s open communication with Arrow Energy has fostered flexibility in adapting control panel designs based on insights gained during the design and manufacturing processes. We understand the importance of rigorous testing and maintain a high level of service throughout each delivery. Every gas well control panel undergoes factory acceptance testing before shipping, instilling confidence in the onsite installation and connection process.
THE SOLUTION
B&R dedicated significant effort to deliver a bespoke, high-quality product tailored to Arrow Energy’s unique requirements and installation environment. The control panels are utilised in the Surat Gas Project, which plans to drill up to 2,500 wells over 27 years, with construction well underway for the expected 2,500 gas wells.
THE RESULT
To date, B&R has supplied over 300 control panels to Arrow Energy and will continue to support this ongoing project.
BACKGROUND
The Surat Gas Project (SGP) is Arrow Energy’s 27-year project in Queensland’s Surat Basin to safely, responsibly and reliably produce the natural gas required for a clean energy future. Given the project’s vast area, B&R has adapted its solutions to suit remote and unmanned locations. Since our collaboration began in 2016, we have developed a strong business relationship with Arrow Energy and we are excited to contribute to this clean energy future, aligning with our own environmental and sustainability vision.
