In the thrilling new season of The Block 2024, B&R teamed up with Summit Electrical Contracting to supply a crucial component – the Group Meter Panel. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Phillip Island, this season promises high-stakes renovations and plenty of drama as the contestants work their magic, transforming an abandoned ghost town holiday resort into a luxury coastal village.
While the on-screen action heats up, B&R is here to ensure that electrical distribution stays drama-free. We’re excited to be part of this electrifying journey!
THE CHALLENGE
The challenge was clear: replace an outdated B&R CT Meter board with a modern system that would allow for individually metered premises. With the clock ticking, early power availability was crucial to ensure filming could proceed without a hitch. To add to the pressure, the solution needed to comply with national regulations while meeting the unique requirements of the project.
THE STRATEGY
To tackle these challenges head-on, B&R implemented several strategic initiatives:
To tackle these challenges head-on, B&R implemented several strategic initiatives:
- Utilisation of Advanced Solutions:
We selected B&R’s Infinity 3G Modular Switchboard Solution, capable of handling both commercial and residential applications up to 630 Amps. This solution not only meets but exceeds AS/NZS 3439 and AS/NZS 61439 compliance. - Local Manufacturing:
The Group Meter Panel was proudly built locally in Melbourne by the B&R Electrical Integration team. This allowed us to expedite construction and meet Summit Electrical’s tight timeline for early power availability. - Innovative Design Features:
A single meter panel (1000H x 600W) was designed to accommodate six 3-phase Authority Meters. B&R’s Vic SIR Approvals enabled the use of a single meter panel for multiple 3-phase meters, ranging from 400H x 400W for one meter to 1200H x 600W for eight meters. Our team created a slim design featuring one meter panel isolator, ensuring full compliance with AS/NZS 61439 and Vic SIR regulations. - Temporary Power Solutions:
To ensure seamless operations during the build, we utilised B&R’s V12 and V5 domestic meter panels as temporary power switchboards for each house. These panels will eventually transition into house switchboards and sub-boards. - Technical Sales Team Engagement:
Our technical sales team carried out a comprehensive site visit to get a clear understanding of Summit Electrical’s requirements. This hands-on approach provided invaluable insights allowing us to effectively customise our design. By being responsive and accessible, our team ensured communication was easy and remained open throughout the project, providing peace of mind.
THE RESULT
Thanks to the collaboration between B&R and Summit Electrical, we successfully completed the project in just six weeks, from initial engagement to quoting, order approval, delivery and installation.
