These types of facilities include:

LNG Extraction and Processing – involves the extraction, transport and processing of LNG. A great example of this is the Ichthys project which includes a central processing, semi-submersible product platform off WA which extracts condensate and water from the gas. The gas is then transferred via a 890km long pipeline to Darwin and the condensate to a floating production storage and offloading facility.
Once the gas has been transferred to Darwin, it is further processed to transform it into its liquefied state, stored and then transferred to it's next destination.

LPG Terminals – Once LPG had been extracted, it has to be safely stored, which requires extensive use of explosions protected equipment designed for hazardous areas. On such facility is the Banyuwangi LPG Terminal which stores and supplies up to 10,000 metric tonnes of LPG to Bali and East Java.
LPG terminals require the use of explosion proof enclosures and lighting. At the Banyuwangi terminal this was also made more complex by the location which could experience extreme heat, high humidity, salty air and torrential rain.

Exploration Equipment – Oil and gas exploration is often in some of the toughest environments on the planet and requires specialised equipment to be able to survive in the extremes they face. You only have to look at the Ichthys Project to see the level of engineering required, but when exploring for new resources, equipment needs to be super robust and reliable, no matter the circumstances.
